Vilnus
Vilnus is a densely populated metropolis. Originally built as a walled city to withstand siege, it is old and uniquely beautiful. A contrasting blend of various periodic architecture and utilization of space creates a cityscape that is a wonder to behold. The Chapel of Khoreg - Most temples that devote themselves to Khoreg are affixed to military outposts, forts and castles. Here in the city of Vilnus though, it is understood that not all those that worship the Goddess Khoreg are of the military.. The chapel of Khoreg was built with function over form in mind. The aesthetic is simple but decadent; adorned only subtle details of halderbs and ravens, upon altars, banners and awnings.
The Church of Bacchus - A lavishly orniated Church that reveals in the spoils of toils and labour. Heiliger Kries - Aside from the churches and temples that reside here; the square is overflowing with devotion to the grand pantheon of the Teutonians gods, as well as other deities from conclaves of elsewhere who have chosen Vilnus as their home. Statues, carvings, busts, minor obelisks, amphitheaters, Trees, Shrines and a meditation garden; are just a few examples of how the district is occupied.
Outer wall
The outer wall stands 30ft - ish tall at its highest point and encircles the entire of the inner city. The wall is most fortified at its most northern and southern point, with towers that overlook the east and west of the city. Parts of the residential city have begun to spill out the perimeter of the wall as the population of Vilnus grows. The wall was designed to be both defensive and accessible. It grants the First legion of Vlinus a swift route around the circumference of the city, with multiple access points that lead directly into the city.
North Outpost: Heavy fortified doors that remain open during the day for civilian use. Closed just before dark to maintain safety and order of the city, open again at day break. It guards the northern road from Erstenplatz.
South Outpost: Heavy fortified doors that remain open during the day for civilian use. Closed just before dark to maintain safety and order of the city, open again at day break. It guards the southern roads to Varenburg.
East Tower: A tower that is used for the east watch of the city. It looks over the east gate of the city and the road that leads to Krast.
West Tower: A tower that is used for the west watch of the city. It looks over the west gate of the city and the road that leads to Solas.
River Gates: Constructed between walls as rivers pass through, each River Gate consists of a portcullis and a large raisable chain.
Teutonian Civil Service Offices
A building that has seen much improvement in the recent years of Hyperion's lordship. It resides somewhat central to the city as to to gain access to the different districts and areas as easily and swiftly as possible. The building is adorned in some decoration. The estate was previously owned by a late Baron, and upon his death was donated to the city and allocated to the Teutonian Civil Service.
Vilnus Prison
While Vilnus was under Imperial occupation, several smaller buildings were demolished or renovated to form a single facility used for housing prisoners. An increasing number of political prisoners was cause for further expansion, and both subterranean excavation and the construction of additional levels drastically increase the holding capacity for Vilnus Prison. With the Imperials withdrawal, much of the facility, especially its dungeonesque tunnels have fallen into disuse over the last decade.
The Curve
The Curve or ‘Stargarder Straße’ is a long slender street that gently bends in a loose spiral through the city. Lined to the brim with taverns and inns, all of which fight for attention with theatrical decoration. Colourful lanterns, ribbons and bright flowers adorn the bridges and arches of the descending street. It is a constant flux of patrons swirling in and out through doors and walkways, like the surge of a gentle river, they ebb and flow through the curve as they descend down to the bottom of its apex. There is a poetry to be said about the further inebriated one becomes, the further down the curve they can be found. It is a hot spot for celebration and debauchery, as well as the home of many a bachite. The Curve is one of only the few that traverses the many layers of the city.
Bazar du Commerce
(Trade Hub)
The Bazar du Commerce started out as a cluster of traders, shops and outlets that would serve the population of the city. Over time more and more buildings were added to the area until the place became a complex of its own volition. It has become a multilayered building, built up of enclosed walkways and corridors that splinter into rooms that lead into more rooms that lead into halls, stairways and balconies. The entire place is filled to the brim with those who wish to peddle their wares of all manner. From master craftsmen selling their magnum opus, to the humble wicker weaver making ends meet. It is here in the secret corners and hushed rooms that Gul is said to be worshipped.
The Colosseum
The Vilnus Colosseum resides deep beneath the city's streets and walkways. It is a large hexagonal arena made from stone and wood and exists well below the surface. It can contain roughly 10,000 people, allowing for most of the city's population to attend if they wish. Aside from its obvious function of providing the brutal entertainment the populace of the city crave; it has been seen to serve as a grave warning to would-be criminals as well as an altar for the blood god Khorn. Here prisoners and criminals would be found guilty of crimes severe enough to warrant the death penalty, here is where it would be delt. Some criminals may have the opportunity to fight for their lives in combat, allowing grace for religious and cultural customs. But these fights are heavily favoured against the persecuted. There may be something to be said about the city choosing to perform its gruesome deeds, deep in the belly of the city away from the light. Other than a platform for the macabre end of the law, the Coliseum is a place of physical prowess, combat, reveraly and repugnant merriment. By decree of Lord Hyperion Kryius von Vilnus, unless it is an execution fight, fights are for honour, until submission, or until one party cannot no longer fight. The lord Hyperion has also banned the fights or beats and wild creatures.
Lebende Jardin
(Living Gardens)
The residential recreational space for the denizens of Vilnus. The Lebende Jardin of Vilnus have a unique beauty to them, not strictly a garden and more of an accident. Like most places found here within Vilnus, the Lebende Jardin can be found upon the rooftops, walkways, bridges and ‘between places’ of the city. Originally the gardens appeared over time in a portion of the city that has seen much neglect, in the bones and ruins of derelict buildings it grew. Before it was officially recognised by the city, the garden was the work of a few select Lorelie worshipers that had stumbled upon the lush pocket. After a while, and once it had begun to bloom under the tender guidance of devotion, it has since become a place of solace and beauty within the city. Although the gardens are mostly made up from wildflowers and weeds; here there can be found several trees, small waterways/aqueducts, vines, ivy and herbs but the most spectacular sight of the gardens are the vast clusters of colourful fungi. The once vacant buildings that the Lebende Jardin spans itself across the top of, have now been reinforced to support the weight of further expansion. They have also been refurbished and occupied by some of the most wealthy inhabitants of Vilnus, as it has become a prime
