Ranks and Titles of the Albithian Nobility
From the introduction to Charles Lamb's Ranks and Dignities of the Peerage of Albis: An Informative Work for the Education of Young Persons
When attending social functions, it is imperative that one and all are aware of the order of precedence to ensure that protocol is maintained. It is vitally important that proper precedence is not lessened for those in the lower ranks of the nobility and so this guide may be used for the education of young persons of all ranks. Education is after all the lifeblood of our youth. I shall begin with a simple ordering of the ranks and dignities of the peerage before we continue to a more in-depth discussion of each of the noble titles that may be bestowed upon an individual of circumstance.
The monarch of the realm comes before all others. This should be obvious to even the most simple minded of my readers. After our most gracious sovereign will follow their consort, however it is typical that the monarch and consort will be presented together at functions and this may only have an impact on certain aspects of particular types of events, for example the seating plan for a meal.
The children of the reigning monarch are next in order of precedence from eldest to youngest. This scale will be used within ranks to determine order for siblings of equal rank unless a younger sibling holds a greater title and must therefore be higher within the order of precedence. The siblings of the reigning monarch also follow this rule and are the next in line in protocol.
