Midenari Butterflies

An adaptation of the Grazu words for "small flier", Midenari butterflies are very rare, found only in the Giraorv Mountain area. For all that they look tiny and delicate, they survive very well in this area of the world, despite punishing conditions.   They are quite valuable elsewhere in the world, but less so to those in close proximity to the area they live as they are quite prolific.

Basic Information

Biological Traits

There is not yet enough data to determine how the butterflies survive in this particular region. Most insects are fairly hardy, but being smashed into a rock because of high velocity winds is enough to keep most bugs well out of the area. Some Garruw originally theorized that there is some kind of phasing ability involved, considering that there are moments when the butterflies simply hover, defying winds and debris.   A more current theory is that they are simply able to flatten themselves to debris and use it to carry them around.

Uses, Products & Exploitation

The wings of the butterflies, if the correct color, can be used in the creation of a rare orange dye. Indeed, all the butterfly wings are useful for the creation of dyes, but most of the colors can be replicated with other, less difficult to procure ingredients. The orange shade is rather unique. There are some ways to create it artificially, but most artisans will claim that the shade is not as vibrant.

Body Tint, Colouring and Marking
The butterflies are beautiful, coming in a wide variety of colors and shades and tints. This is probably because they don't have to worry about predators being able to see them, since the whole area has low visibility due to the dust kicked up by winds. The variety means that when they swarm, the area can be quite beautiful, with vibrant sprinkles of color peeking through the dust and rocks.
