Nythara – Goddess of the Night

Domain: Death, Knowledge.
Symbol: A crescent moon cradled by a field of stars, depicted in silver and deep blue.
Alignment: Neutral   Nythara, the Goddess of the Night, holding dominion over the darkness, the moons, and the dream world. She is a newly ascended goddess, bringing a fresh but powerful presence to the pantheon of Thalaros. Nythara’s creation is tied directly to the night itself, born from the deep shadows cast by Calenis, the God of the Day, when the world was first showered in light.   Nythara is portrayed as an shadowy figure, her form almost indistinguishable from the night sky. She wears a cloak that seems woven from the fabric of the twilight, dotted with stars, and her eyes shine like the full moon. Even though she is the goddess of the night, she is still seen as a benevolent divinity, secrets, dreams, quiet moments are what comes into the mind of people that think about what she guards.   She and Calenis share a kindship and a balance, both making sure that the cycle of day and night, darkness and light gets to balance each other out and making Thalaros the planet it is today, able to harbor life. There is a friendly rivalry between the two religious beliefs, only fanatics take this further.   Something the believer doesn’t know about is that in the early day of Nytharas ascension, she found herself quickly to bond with Samis - God of Storm and Skies, sharing a strong bond with him. The two entities share a passionate and romantic bond, where the wild nature of Samis and his storm clashes with the calm presence of Nythara. Nythara is worshipped by many, both people that use the night for evil as well as those who it for the serene and calm it brings. Her followers include scholars, mystics, and those who operate under the cover of darkness, such as thieves and assassins.   Temples dedicated to Nythara are often open-air structures, designed to capture the moonlight and starlight that are so central to her worship. Her priests and priestesses, known as the Keepers of the Night, are skilled in dream interpretation, astrology, and shadow magic. The Night of the Veil is the most significant festival dedicated to Nythara. Held on the longest night of the year, it is a time when her followers keep vigil from dusk until dawn, engaging in rituals that honor the goddess and seek her guidance for the coming year. During this time, dreams are shared and interpreted.   Nythara’s teachings emphasize the importance of embracing the unknown and finding strength in the shadows. She encourages her followers to trust in the guidance of their dreams and to explore the mysteries of life that can only be uncovered in the stillness of night. Dreams and their interpretation play a significant role in Nythara’s doctrine. Her followers are encouraged to keep dream journals, believing that the goddess communicates through dreams, offering wisdom and guidance to those who can decipher her messages.
