Roretcairn (Rorret Cairn)

Monument of the coast

Right at the northeastern border of The Grand Duchy of Chalk, at the coast, Roretcairn stands. The closest dock to Qualen in the far north, it’s an important stopping off point for many sailors, but it’s important not to forget the culture and industry that the town of Roretcairn can offer.   Decades ago, a group of settlers from Rakash found an elven citadel in the northeastern Chalkwoods - upon further investigation, they found that the citadel was completely empty and had been abandoned for a long time. The entire thing seemed to have been built around a pillar of stones, which they named the Roret Cairn (its name taken from the nearby Roret river). They occupied the citadel, and built a small town and docks around it.   The town’s location on the coast makes it a fantastic location for its primary trade, and that is of lumber.

Roretcairn Wood

For many years, the wood of Roretcairn was known for its supernatural levels of durability and hardness. Its infrastructure was heavily invested in, as Roretcairn Wood was coveted by cities and navies across Tharael. The cause of the extra-durable wood was the Roret Cairn itself - it had a magical aura that caused the trees in the area to grow far stronger than usual. Since some time in the late 3340s, this property appears to have faded from the area for an unknown reason, but wood grown and harvested before this point retains its potency, and this so-called "True Roretcairn Wood" is now an extremely valuable and limited resource.   Although the wood of Roretcairn is no longer supernaturally durable, the town's infrastructure investments still allow it to generate substantial amounts of trade just from the sheer quantity of wood that the people of the town are able to produce.
