A Time Wizard's Curio Cabinet
The Ruins of Alcort lie in the southern Kingdom of Azale'cont-ari, an ancient Dragon realm established and deserted centuries before the birth of The Empire of Strawthorn. This Dragon kingdom predates even the arrival of the elves to the Material plane by several hundred years, according to Refalinanat, the renowned Elven historian.
The dragons who erected the sprawling city of Alcort no longer grace the Material plane; those that remain are but faint echoes of the majestic race that once thrived on the continent of Strawthorn.
Alcort, once a grand metropolis, sprawled across miles of picturesque countryside, designed to harmonize with and enhance nature. Its robust stone structures were crafted to flow and meld with the landscape rather than starkly stand against it. The dragons enlisted the ancient Aldamaldi race to shape their city, manipulating the living rock of the land into each edifice and thoroughfare.
Now, millennia later, the city lies forsaken, its central walled enclave mostly intact but uninhabitable due to the malevolent darkness that shrouds it. Any sentient being lingering within the central city falls prey to madness, inevitably succumbing to the sinister forces that pervade the ruins of this once magnificent city.
See The Wizard Laum's sitting room.
Here, concealed within the enigmatic architecture of the ancient dragon race, safeguarded by arcane enchantments, a suite of chambers crafted to human proportions offers a refuge from the turbulent, shadowy madness that envelops the ruins of the city.
This sanctuary belongs to The Wizard Laum, a formidable and mysterious time wizard. Here, he is secluded from the outside world, able to devote himself to his studies and experiments without fear of interruption. It is within these walls that he houses his most treasured possessions and ponders the course of his designs for the Empire and the world beyond.
At the heart of the sitting room stands a curio cabinet, a focal point of intrigue. Fashioned from blue-teak wood, a material naturally imbued with magic-dampening properties, the cabinet rises eight feet tall, its sturdy frame exuding an air of impenetrability. Adorned with intricate carvings infused with veins of gold, adamantine, and platinum, its three heavy glass doors are substantial and securely locked by enchantment, defying attempts to breach them from within or without. And some of the objects within do try to escape from time to time.
The cabinet itself is worth nearly as much as its contents, and is as possesive of its contents as is Laum... nearly.
