The Celestial Web

Description

In the time before time, Aranarea, the Great Spacetime Weaver, created the known universes out of a strand of aetheric thread containing all the magic in existence. The Celestial Spider then wove the thread into a great web, and at each intersection a new universe was born from the extreme concentration of pure aether. The pathways of the Celestial Web act as magical bridges connecting the universes that can be traversed by those who know how to do so. These threads also act similarly to leylines, transferring magic between the many universes they connect.

The Sentinels, five of the twenty Benevolent Celestials, oversee this web to keep everything in check. Any magical disturbances in the flow of aether (referred to as "aetheric flux") will surely get their attention, as well as the attention of Grexcubia, the Celestial Wolf, who carefully and tirelessly keeps watch over the flow of the leylines at the center of the Celestial Web, where all the energies converge.

When the Sentinels and Grexcubia sense aetheric flux, they send word to the Curators and the Catalysts through the leylines, to help the Sentinels restore anything that may have gone wrong and rebalance the elements as necessary. The Muses, on the other hand, tend to concern themselves with the sapient beings of each universe, hoping to guide them in the understanding of the elements. The hope of Salutra, Muse of Aether, is that with understanding of the elements, powerful mages will step up to assist the Benevolent Celestials in their constant struggle against the Inciters and other beings who revel in chaos.
