Session 7: The Crying Fields Report

General Summary

This session report was co-written by therealdoenahareth and lawsofgodsandmen.   An Introduction to Zerros   We meet Zerros, an artificer Tiefling who wants to feel a sense of peace after the violence from the war in his homeland. He is from Droaam and after some history checks, the party (not Doe) learns that Droaam is considered a country SEPARATE from the treaty and was known for turning people into literal monsters. They are compared to Warforged, but unlike Warforged they do not have a side or morals in the war.   Zerros was hired by Millicent to collect and deliver dragon crystals to her from [insert name here]. This can be used to power mechanics like Warforged as well as enhance the magic.       Downstairs:   In an attempt to cheer the resident fluffy monk up, Quintus tries to make breakfast for Doe. The idea is nice, but when asking the chef if he can use the kitchen, the chef snaps back at Quintus and asks if his food isn’t good enough. The conversation continues to get worse, and eventually, the chef snaps, and breakfast is CANCELLED.   To make matters worse, Zero tries to pick up the entire table as the food is leaving in an attempt to get food for his new party members. Doe hears the commotion from upstairs and dashes down half-dressed to try to stop Zero. Once again, the party upsets the chef and he screams at Doe and Zero. Quintus flees the scene and Doe quickly follows, leaving Zero alone with the angry chef and Alain.   The Zerros and Millicent Interaction   Zerros is sadly introduced to the party this way and watches the entire interaction with the chef before he is called back by Millicent to collect her Dragon Shards. During this interaction, he learns that he is two Dragon Shards short. Millicent smiles and says it would be a real shame if Zerros’s employers heard about this. Of course, she’d never think that Zerros stole the shards for himself, but he is two shards short.   Zerros accuses Millicent of blackmail, to which she gives a smirk and a wry, sarcastic response that she would never do that. Fullying knowing that she is blackmailing him, Zerros is forced to join the party to collect her family ring from the crying fields. Millicent admits to Zerros during this interaction that the party feels like a group of "total strangers" and she doesn't care about their lives in the matter; she only wants Zerros to get the ring.     Zerros’s First Interaction with the Party and Kalashtar Bonding   Zerros goes to the chef after speaking to Millicent and tries to get food. After a bit of comforting the chef, he ends up with coffee and meets Alain and Zero. Zero tries coffee for the first time and LOVES IT. That’s right, the Warforged now has a coffee addiction.   Upstairs, Quintus and Doe have their respective crying sessions in separate rooms and Quintus leaves rations for Doe, feeling bad about ruining breakfast, with a note in Quori apologizing and telling Doe to take care of themselves. Doe is surprised to learn Quintus knows Quori and quickly follows after him. Quintus admits to Doe that he feels like a fuck up for ruining breakfast, and Doe admits that they do as well for getting arrested. Doe further shares that they’re mad about what happened the night before and that they don’t want to be mad. The two continue to bond.   At one point in the conversation, Quintus calls “Alan” Doe's father, and Doe tells Quintus that they don’t see Alain as a father figure. Quintus jokes about Alain being stuck up because of Alain’s shiny face, to which Doe responds, “The face is fine, it’s the words we need to work on.” After this Doe hints that they don’t have a good relationship with their biological father and quickly steers the conversion to breakfast.   Zerros meets Quintus and Doe as the two come downstairs. While the Kalashtar bonded, Zerros and Alain were lecturing Zero on how to behave in society. Some of these rules included: you cannot punch people, do not speak badly about the guard or houses, don’t pick up tables, ect. Zerros gravitates towards Alain as being the only semi-normal one in the group.   Zerros is intimidated by Doe’s excitement to have a new party member and is further disturbed when they talk in his head. When Zerros explains that he’s here to help, he gets a response of, “Good, we need it.”     The Crying Fields   The party is kicked out by Millicent and they are escorted out of the city by Rat. They then travel to the Crying Fields. The fields have been abandoned for over a hundred years, an eerie green fog hangs low to the ground. As the party walks onto the field they are overwhelmed by sounds of battle and shouting from beyond the grave. The party is thrown into a flashback of a battle they all participated in right there on the Crying Fields.   Doenehareth kneels on the ground healing a wounded soldier, they look up and witness Zero shooting Alain, as Alain tries to hold onto a large package. Quintus rushes to Alain's side where Doe quickly appears. Zero rushes off into the mess of the war, pursued by Zerros who believes Zero just ruined his pristine delivery. As Doe tries to heal Alain, Alain hands the package over to Quintus insisting he finishes the job. Quintus rushes off through the battlefield trying to finish the delivery.   Then the party is pulled out of the flashback and into combat as multiple skeletons and flesh monsters rush to attack them!
