The Deep Black

The space between star systems. Far beyond a star's heliopause, past the Hill sphere, space itself becomes... thin. Membranous. No barriers exist to deny the passage of energies and lifeforms from outside known cosmology, either to act or simply passively influence. Unprotected travel through the Deep Black can see a ship set upon by ravenous Void entities; its crew twisted and mutated, turned inside-out; its systems imbued with cruel, calculating life, turning on its former masters; or simply a few days of missing time, and nothing more.
