Undead
Corpses of other sapient species, sustained and animated by some kind of external power - most commonly the Void. Most undead are mindless or near-mindless and driven only by animosity towards the living, though some particularly powerful individuals are able to retain memories of their former life.
The most common type of undead are 'incidental undead,' sometimes referred to by diasporans as 'vac mummies.' Individuals who die in space having spent a significant amount of their time working and living there can return, reanimated by the ambient Void they had soaked up in life.
Basic Information
Anatomy
Undead do not necessarily require an intact brain, or even a fully intact body, and can remain viable long after everything but their bones has rotted away.
Biological Traits
Complete cessation of biological processes, though the process of reanimation tends to slow natural decomposition without fully stopping it. All undead will eventually decompose to the point of permanent death unless sustained by outside factors.
Dietary Needs and Habits
Undead generally do not consume the flesh of the living, as their biological processes have ceased and nourishment means nothing to them. Intelligent undead who seek to sustain themselves will do so by alternate means.
Additional Information
Perception and Sensory Capabilities
Loss of visual organs is common; incidental undead will often hunt by sound, carried to their sensorium by bone conduction.
Civilization and Culture
Major Organizations
All members of the Ascendant Armada are undead.
