Trest

From the start of the Second Age until 500 years ago, Trest was a thriving free city of scholars who were pushing the bounds of what magic is capable of. The people there enjoyed comfortable lives aided by magic items and public services.   All this until the council of wizards there attempted to harness magical energies beyond the Material Plane. The experiment backfired and ended up thinning the barrier between the realms. This thinning effect made the region prone to spontaneous unstable rifts opening and subjecting the world to extraplanar energy. When this happened, many people simply vanished; others left in a hurry.   Most life cannot not live here anymore and the life that does continue is warped.   Now, the city is essentially abandoned. The grand architecture is mostly in place for being over 500 years old. Aside from a few buildings that have collapsed from the extraplanar tremors and dust, the city is eerily beautiful. Gilded statues line some of the town squares and basic goods still lie in the market stalls.
