Hatchet King Inn

This inn and common hostel is popular amongst the local tradesmen and lakeworkers. Farmers even come from outlying regions to congregate in town for the market and even some caravan guards sick of sleeping outside will patronize the establishment. Despite the drab surroundings, the atmosphere is upbeat and the food, though plain, is plentiful for reasonable prices. While the proprietor encourages a strict light's out policy a couple hours before midnight, the common room is a lively place as each market and festival night the cots are removed and the floor used for dancing and drinking. In addition to locals and farmers, it is often here that sailors and lakefolk meet, eat, or sleep while their ships or boats are docked at the quay.

Padric of Domir is the only person to live in the hostel full time in the summer months; Ana Hes the housekeeper lives in the house of her father, the village carpenter. She arrives before dawn each morning to begin a long day of cooking and cleaning. Padric rarely has trouble but often 'hires' one or two local laborers or sailors to bunk down in the hostel during market days and when caravans push through.

During the winter, the hostel also boards those lakeworkers that are unable to find work on the frozen waters. These itinerant laborers often ice fish and seek out odd jobs to make it through the icy season. Unfortunately, some of the men simply cannot make ends meet for that many weeks or drink their savings and are eventually asked to leave. These individuals may simple wander away until the work returns but more than a few have caused trouble in town for others.

History

This sturdy townhouse has stood in Domir for several generations, home and shop to numerous well-to-do tradesmen, from bakers to butchers. The last tenant was a weaver who passed on without issue. The townhouse did not stand idle long and it is now owned by the solo businessman, Padric of Domir. He arrived seven years ago from southern Auredain and his establishment quickly changed the atmosphere and activity of the town by encouraging folks of lesser means to spend more time there.
