Lorne Point Lighthouse
Purpose / Function
The lighthouse/lookout tower was the first construction near what would become Lorne Point. It was placed there due to a hidden cluster of underwater rock jags that lie just below the surface. As more folks fished along the shore and even began settling in the region, it was decided that a lighthouse would be appropriate to warn ships away from the hazard but also notify them of a safe dock on the wild western banks of the Dain.
History
The current lighthouse is not the original structure as it has been rebuilt twice and is in need of regular repairs. It was most recently rebuilt in 97ys. This occured some years after a portion of the exterior wall collapsed for unknown reasons. The lighthouse still functioned so it was not repaired by the local lord and the Auredani King had long ceded responsibility of it to that notable. It was several years before a trading vessel coming from the north, an irregular origin at the best of times, during a storm that had shuttered the beacon. Due to the severe rain and winds, no one was willing to subject themselves to the elements in order to relight the beacon. Unfortunately, the vessel was hulled and there was a significant amount of finger-pointing and a bit of a work stand-off between the royals and the local noble. The dispute was eventually settled and the lighthouse was rebuilt.
When Magus Unarias chose to retire to the area it was an easy matter for the Enigmatics to convince him to move into the lighthouse. At the time, it was believed that Unarias was only a temporary resident as he healed from the unknown injuries that lost him the leg. With some alterations made for his purposes and paid for by the Crown and Academy, both of which wanted a competent mage in the area and beholden to no one, Unarias moved into the structure in 111ys. Contrary to popular belief, he has remained at the lighthouse and claims that his 'research' cannot be interrupted as it once was in his youth.
