The Aephex (Ae-Fek-sz)

A virtual-reality type space with compatibility options for full-on sensory immersion and the ability to upload one's consciousness created by Levilux. Though one needs as little as a cellphone to access the basics that the Aephex has to offer, VR headsets with sensory upgrades are available, upwards of full-body immersion kits.

Besides being a place for fun, games and a place to begin a new life, the Aephex has slowly become an escape from the ever-changing world of Freyla as climate change and chaos spreads.

Utility

Given the nature of the Aephex, it can be used from simple AR or chatroom-type gaming from a cellphone, to VR-headset compatible experiences, to full-on consciousness-uploading. As such, the reality of Aephex is anything from a game to a new life, depending on the amount of time and money dropped onto the company running it.

Social Impact

The existence of the Aephex has created more social strife, creating more classism in some circles. Depending on one's views, those who can afford to have their complete consciousness uploaded into Aephex are seen as more 'snobby' and rich, while those who use only their phones to access the world are looked down upon. However, plenty of people have been seen to try and avoid the stigmas, with many just wanting to enjoy Aephex for what it is.

For those that use Aephex, they have the option of creating an Anon or using a digital version of themselves. Most choose to use an Anon, viewing Aephex as an escape from real life, while those who are celebrities or have a high viewpoint of themselves tend to forego their option of complete anonymity. Such differences can help feed into the discourse between the 'classes'.

While the individual who invented the process and created Aephex remains unknown, they have been known to go by an Anon in and out of the digital realm, simply going by the name of 'Luca'.
