The Meleatte River
"The mother's river cries and her tears bring life to the searing sands."Running down from the Ranad Mountains, the Meleatte is the largest and most important river in Arad. To the ancient Aradin it was known as the River of Tears as it was believed to have been born from the weeping of the Mother Mountain. Where it meets the Western Sea along the coast, the city of Thripia was built, sustained by its waters. The banks of the Meleatte are also home to the sungold tree which can grow nowhere else in the world and the bees who harvest its nectar to make ichor.
Wildlife
The Meleatte, intrinsic to life in Arad, is lived in by many species. Fish are found throughout its waters as are other smaller water-dwelling animals like turtles and, in certain parts, frogs. Sartans are known to regularly bathe in its waters to re-hydrate their absorbent bodies for long journeys. Larger animals include hippopotamus, who spend a majority of their time relaxing in calm sections of the river, and crocodiles who are feared by even the greatest hunters for their thick hides and powerful jaws. Camels, as well, regularly come to the Meleatte to drink.
