The Two Bridges
"Fire and water will meet upon the Third Bridge. In their union that victory will be conceived."Made up of the first bridge nearer to the coast and the second bridge at the bend of the Meleatte, the Two Bridges connect the two halves of Thripia split by the river; the north side and the south side. Whereas the latter is older and richer, the former is poorer. The Third Bridge, outside the walls in fertile farmland, was destroyed by the Imperials in the People's Uprising in order to block the passage of the Gold Army.
Appearance
The Two Bridges are made of sandstone, flat and supported by a series of arches underneath which fall into the water. The roads atop them are flanked either side by railing topped by large bronze braziers. The First Bridge is the widest and spans the greatest gap, located not far from where the Meleatte meets the sea, and is trafficked at all hours of the day by pedestrians. Occasional market stalls may sometimes appear upon it. The Second Bridge, located further down where the river bends, is thinner and has less length to cover. Row boats going up and down the Meleatte regularly pass underneath and in its middle is a small, dome-roofed gazebo, built to mark the approximate city center, in the middle of which is a magnificent torch. Of the destroyed Third Bridge, formerly located outside the city walls in the far eastern section, little remains say for the suggestion of former archways and isolated sandstone blocks where the road once met with stone.
