Matters of Elixirs and Brewed Remedies

The rapid and unchecked expansion of Vojûnic power in Qadal was ruinous for mortal civilization. Lords and temples were thrown into disarray, morality was discarded, and Eshanic law ignored. Amidst this chaos, however, some semblance of benefit did arise. Noteworthy advances were made in the nascent field of medical remedies. Namely, the union between Vojûnic and unnatural powers with traditional herbal tonics. The inclusion of Vojûn allowed energy akin to Eshara to bolster those mundane concoctions to improve their potency and efficiency. No longer was direct Eshanic intervention required. In turn, the separation between mortals and raw Vojûnic energy stemmed the unpredictability of that power. For a warrior wounded in battle- a common profile in the Weeping Era, the differences in treatment were remarkable. Foremost stood the ancient cures of scented herbs, timely rest, and robust nourishment. These were effective in regard to superficial or minor wounds, but did nothing for ghastly lacerations or burns. Salvation through Eshanic grace was another source of respite. Yet, the Eshan were weaker in those days and disoriented by the sudden death of Atûn. The connection between them and mortals, which was notoriously weak historically, deteriorated to new lows. Religious revivals and knowledge accumulated during the Ascension era were largely lost. As Vojûn became prominent, its energy was used as raw healing powe. The dilemma therein was the corrupting properties of that unguided power. Horrible and sometimes fatal side effects were grotesquely common. Finally, in a diluted form came the elixirs and potions. At worst, the contents consisted of little more than water and Vojûnic energy. The result was in incredible burst of internal energy, more often ill than good. At best, the Vojûnic or rarely Eshanic power was meshed with sufficient natural ingredients. This meant the effects were distributed evenly and over time, rather than heaped upon the bodily system instantly. All manner of these options became available during the Qadayen Interrengum, creating a rather uneven and dangerous landscape of choice.   While the development of Vojûnic and later Eshanic elixirs altered the power dymanic between mortals, these remedies were not miracle cures. Foremost, they were expensive to craft. Gathering the raw Ebonstone or employment to create elixirs, potions, or posions could cost the buyer tracts of land or chests of precious metals! Produced in naturally small doses. Last and most importantly, these curing elixirs merely grant mortals additional energy with which to heal, rather than actually healing the body itself. A warrior impaled with a spear might well expire with or without the elixir!   In later centuries, the process of creating unnatural remedies was refined with varying ratios of natural ingredients and alternate Eshanic powers.
