Yaalon

Amongst every group of siblings, there is the one who separates from the rest. A black sheep of the flock, if you will. For the Eshan, Yaalon is that individual. He was the first Ebal’eshan born in Qadal, immediately following the Alor’eshan but lacking in their immense power. The peculiar timing of his birth placed him on the crossroads between the Alor’eshan and Ebal’eshan, interacting with both groups, but truly identifying with neither. He established a niche for himself by acting as something of an informant and confidant for the two groups. Grievances one side had against the other were funneled through him, as it avoided direct conflict between the quarreling factions. All the while, Yaalon remained aloof and uncommitted to the affairs of his siblings.   When conflict did erupt during the period of Olûn, Yaalon pursued his own unpredictable agenda. In the rivalry between Aebaster and Atû, Yaalon and many of the other Ebal’eshan shifted sides periodically to suit their own needs. When it seemed Aebaster was in the favor of Ácolitus, the cunning Yaalon silently joined him. When Atûn gained power and favor, the roles reversed. When Zelai informed Ácolitus of the affair between Aebaster and Mesian as a matter of revenge, Yaalon protected her by shielding the hideaway from Aebaster’s fury. Most impressive of all, Yaalon managed to skillfully navigate the tumultuous political environment that surrounded the First Feud. He deftly maneuvered between alliances to avoid being caught on the wrong side. He parleyed with Ácolitus and Atûn, but easily meshed with Aebaster and his allies once the fighting was over. When the terms of the Divine Mandates were decided, Yaalon simply nodded his head and allowed the two sides to argue.   Once the conflict had passed, Yaalon joined the multitude of his brethren who chose to remain in Qadal and Voryndal rather than return to the Void. The majority of those Ebal’eshan who settled in Voryndal followed the model set by the Alor’eshan and established permanent realms within the region. Several them created chosen races of their own, some being inspired by the works of the Alor’eshan, while others dedicated their existence to eternal peace in isolation. Yaalon scorned both options and adopted a nomadic lifestyle. He crafted a great ship for himself, something akin to a Nevanese barge, and occupied it as a home. Throughout the centuries that followed, Yaalon sailed across the bredth and width of Qadal and Voryndal, exploring its beauty and collecting artifacts from its many cultures. He otherwise remained characteristically aloof to the affairs of the world, save for a few notable occasions. The greatest among them was saving Elyna of Axoggan, known as Elix in the Axodraharik tounge, while she and her companions were caught drifting across the great expanse of the Gismyr. They had escaped after rebelling against the Axokari and became lost. Yaalon not only recused them, and also told them about the slumbering Axokri’hesma, named Zenatrix, who had been forced into a comatose state by the Axokari Ry’nyx and his allies. This changed history. Elyna returned to Axoggan and was joined by Axokari loyal to the Axokri’hesma in the great conflict that reawoke Zenatrix and led to the destruction of Axoggan. What motivated Yaalon’s intervention? To know that would require knowledge of his personal agenda, and no soul in all Qadal and the Void can ascertain it
