The Crown Isle
The Crown Isle, located in the Azure Sea between Calgamau Island and the Coral Forests, has been known as a natural fortress for a hundred years. The Crown Isle, called such because of the mountains on the islands three peaks resembling the three points of a crown, had a fort built upon the middle peak by the sea princes 40 years ago only increasin the Islands reputaion for Security. The fortress is known as impenetrable. Between the thick jungles and mysterious wildlife, a trek across the island to the fort is a suicide mission for most. The entrance to the bay of the island is restricted by long narrow sand bars that make a narrow corridor, just wide enough for a Galley to fit through. These corridors have been used as kill zones by pirates, using the mangonels placed near the fort, ammunition is rained down from the fortress on ships that dare enter the bay without permission.
The Crown Isle was, until recently, under the control of the nefarious pirate Tarin the Red Skewer. Tarin was known to be ruthless. He sailed under the Sea Prince flag as the Old Sea Prince leader's right hand man. After the Kings Navy chased the Sea Princes out of Saltmarsh, he fled west, taming the Crown Isles natural defenses and turning the island into his own lair.
Tarin was defeated by a group of Adventurers known as the Heirs of the Sea, who would then take over the island as their own.
Geography
A slightly oblong island, with three small mountains that make up the peaks of the "crown" of the island. Between these mountains are deep valleys, filled with lush fauna.
Ecosystem
The ecosystem is a lush jungle with many fruit bearing trees, brightly colored flowers, a variety of local wildlife and some exotic plants that could be use for a variety of things.
Fauna & Flora
There is a certain variety of molds that are native to this island that infect a host with spores that invade the hosts lungs and stops their breathing. It then operates the body like a puppet. These host bodies mutate, turning into a creature slightly shorter than the host, with long orange fur and deep green skin. Their eyes sink in and become a bright orange color. These molds grow in large patches in the southern and northern jungle. It looks like neon orange fur carpet. If a creature steps into it, it fills the air with spores, looking to spread its reaches across the island.
There are also assassin vines that fill the jungles near the bay that act as a natural deterrent. They will entangle any creature that stumbles into their grasp and slowly squeeze the life out of them.
Natural Resources
The small mountains to the south have precious metals in them (silver and mithral), there are tobacco plants that grow to the east of the central mountain and many citrus trees on the north of the island. The trees are old and make good lumber and the mountains are made of good quality stone.
History
Crown Island at one point was home to an indeginous people that arrived on this island using small watercraft long before sails were invented. They built two small villages on the island, using the mountain as a natural framework. Eventually as the islanders explored, they fell victims to the orange mold and became some of the violent primate like creatures that are preasant around crown isle.
In recent history, this island was taken over by Tarin, the Red Skewer. A notorious man, known for his involvement with the Sea Princes, he used the island as his own personal home and hideaway. He took advantage of the natural defenses of the island, however, this could not stop a daring group of adventurers from climbing up the cliff face below the fort, scaling the building itself and storming their way in, defeating Tarin in one fell swoop.
