The Shadowfell

The Shadowfell, also known as the Plane of Shadow, is one of the planes of existence. It exists as sort of a counterpart to the Feywild, in the sense that it is a reflection, or "echo", of the Prime Material Plane. Unlike the Feywild, it is a bleak, desolate place full of decay and death.   It is said that the little-known fifth race of Elves, the Shadar-Kai, fled to the Shadowfell after The Great Schism.

A World Devoid of Colour

The most striking and immediate impression a visitor to the Plane of Shadow experiences is the lack of colour and light; no sun, moon, or stars adorn the vault of the inky black sky, and all things look as if the colour has leeched out, leaving nothing but black and white, which in the dimness are more like "dark black" and "light black".   Some areas on the Shadowfell seem to have an affinity with the Negative Energy Plane and life-draining undead such as shadows, ghosts, and vampires.

Domain of the Raven Queen

It is said that the Raven Queen abides in the Shadowfell, a mysterious god of death trapped by her fascination with the past. She is said to live in a fortress of memories, a place of overwhelming sorrow, overflowing with memories taken from mortals and fragments of dead deities, material objects collected by the Shadar-Kai and brought to her as gifts.
