Elves

Elves are a magical people of otherworldly grace, living in the world but not entirely part of it.   Traditionally they lived in places of ethereal beauty, in the midst of ancient forests or in silvery spires glittering with faerie light, where soft music drifted through the air and gentle fragrances wafted on the breeze. Elves love nature and magic, art and artistry, music and poetry, and the good things of the world.   With their unearthly grace and fine features, elves appear hauntingly beautiful to humans and members of many other races.

Elves around the Azure Sea

Three hundred years ago all of the elf tribes were united under the banner of the Antarian Federation. Based in the ancient conclave of Antaros, the Elves traded and mixed freely with the other peoples of the world. Eventually, coming under pressure from the expanding Cerulean Empire, the Great Pelagic War broke out.   The magic and diversity of the Elves won out however, and the Cerulean Empire was thrown back right unto the very furthest western shores of The Azure Sea. Just as victory seemed inevitable something terrible happened.   A Great Schism occurred between the races of Elves. None know for sure what caused it, and each elven race has it's own version of the tale. The strongest rumours suggest the Schism began in the Fearwyd Weald. Whatever the reason, the Great Schism had a devastating effect on the Elves, and the tribes were sundered. The Grugach fled to begin anew deep within the Fearwyd Weald. The Alugach disappeared into the sea. The Drow fled underground, and the Eldgach retreated to Antaros and sued for peace with the Cerulean Empire.   Ancient sites of the lost Antarian Federation can be found all over the lands.

Subraces

After the Great Schism the diverse races of the elves divided and went their own separate ways. The following subraces are all available as playable races, and any elf PC must pick one of these.

Darkvision. Accustomed to twilit forests and the night sky, you have superior vision in dark and dim conditions. You can see in dim light within 60 feet of you as if it were bright light, and in darkness as if it were dim light. You can’t discern colour in darkness, only shades of grey.   Keen Senses. You have proficiency with the Perception skill.   Fey Ancestry. You have advantage on saving throws against being charmed, and magic can’t put you to sleep.   Trance. Elves don't need to sleep. Instead, they meditate deeply, remaining semiconscious for 4 hours a day (the Common word for such meditation is "trance"). While meditating you can dream after a fashion; such dreams are actually mental exercises that have become reflexive through years of practice. After resting in this way, you gain the same benefit that a human does from 8 hours of sleep.   Languages. You can speak, read and write Common and Elvish. Elvish is fluid, with subtle intonations and intricate grammar. Elven literature is rich and varied, and their songs and poems are famous among other races. Many bards leanr their language so that they can add Elvish ballads to their repertoires.   Subrace. Ancient divides among the elven people resulted in several subraces: Eldgach (High Elves), Grugach (Wild Elves), Alugach (Aquatic Elves) and Drow (Dark Elves). Choose one of these subraces.
