Angels are creatures constructed by a deity - to serve their creator with the utmost loyalty and help spread their mantra and defend their beliefs. Most angels are constructed to appear to be humanoid but some angels are purposely created to be terrifying or abstract for combative purposes. Because of their wide range of appearances, angels are both beacons of hope and untrustworthy beings. When an angel appears before a mortal and claims they've been sent by a goodly god, why would the mortal believe the creature to not be from the hells? The complicated relationships between angels and mortals have existed since the Mythological Era, resulting in angels only appearing to those dedicated to a shared faith.
Halos
When an angel is created, they're also created with an item called a halo - a golden ring that is placed around the creature's *heart. When activated, the item produces a ring of light around the angel (hence the name) that rapidly heals it. This is the angel's main protection, allowing it to not worry about an injury regardless of severity, and a powerful tool when properly extracted.
Fallen Angels
Some angels - typically those that have gained true free will and forsaken their creator - are cast out of their realm. An angel must make repeated trips to their original realm to restore their divine power. If they're away too long they being to absorb the mana around them, a process that is maddening. Despite what it was originally created to look like, a fallen angel becomes distorted, hideous, and overall horrific.
Hunter's Notes
Many fallen angels were created as a result of the Angelic Invasion, meaning that the need to destroy these once-goodly creatures has become more and more necessary. Unfortunately, because of their typically unique forms, a hunter will have to make their own decisions when it comes to overcoming an angel's defenses and avoiding its attacks. The only advice that could be given is to gain the blessing of its original creator, in hopes that their divine energy will help defeat the traitor, and to remove or destroy its halo (see "Halo Harvester" in the sidebar).
Halo Harvestor
First created during a time of divine civil war, the Halo Harvester was created. The weapon is identical to a sickle, except it was enchanted to be able to pass through physical objects and flesh. It's purpose was to latch onto halos and (with enough pulling force) to break them while inside the angel, both removing their insane healing factor and causing the creature immense pain.
Notes
*As stated, an angel's form can be abstract, meaning that it's heart can be anywhere within the angel's body or appear to be anything the creator wished it to appear as. To restate, hearts are difficult to locate within angels but are present in every living angel.
