The Journey's End

On the edge of Highguard's crafters district there is a large inn not far from the Mercenary's guild and the Adventurers' guild called The Journey's End, often simply called The End. The three story building has a large common room, two floors of rentable rooms, four private meeting rooms, a small kitchen, and a walled in courtyard with a small stable in the back. It caters to the troops of mercenaries and adventurers who come to Highguard looking for work or returning from their recent endeavors.

Architecture

The current building is roughly 95 feet by 80 feet, with a large walled in courtyard. The gate to the courtyard is large enough for carts to bring in supplies. The stable can house 10 horses but they have made a deal with a nearby large stable for their clientele.  The ground floor of The End is almost entirely the large common room with two large fireplaces, though there are four small private meeting rooms that can be requested. The kitchen off the back is small and not made to provide large meals for all their visitors. They serve basic food that is of decent quality but by far not something people visit for. For those looking for full meals, they direct them to the various restaurants in the area. The bar, however, serves a vast array of high quality drinks. Prices range from affordable to insanely expensive. Regulars to The End will sometimes put in requests for specific drinks and the owners will make sure they have it on hand.

Next to the bar is the stairs up to the landing on the first floor. It has three large rooms: one room with bunk beds and a fireplace; one large room of barrick style beds; and one room that is nicer with 11 beds, some tables, and it's own fireplace. The stairs continue up to the third floor where the private rooms are located. These small rooms have a range of sleeping arrangements, from individual rooms to ones with bunk beds for small groups.

History

It was founded by a group of retired adventurers in 1550 D.A. as a tavern for the itinerants from the two guilds. Since then the tradition of handing over ownership to retiring adventuring groups has persisted. The current owners, The Vagrant Wolves, bought the Inn in 118 A.S. and have helped the inn flourish.

Over the centuries The End has been renovated, burned down, and rebuilt several times. The first renovations to the small tavern were the additions of the small kitchen to provide basic food and the private meeting rooms. The first time it was burned down they took the opportunity to dig out a cellar under the kitchen so they didn't have to use the external shed for storage that was constantly being robbed. During these early years the two guilds were far enough outside of town that there was plenty of open land for groups to camp nearby. Once the city grew enough to push these encampments miles away, the first floor was added on with a general barricks their customers could pay to use.  When it became apparent that the land around the End was going to be built up, the current owners decided to expand the building  to its current L shape. This allowed for the tavern to be opened into a larger common room and the first floor was able to have smaller rooms for groups. The last renovation was to add the third floor with rooms that offered more privacy.

It feels so nice and cozy I could have a cold ale and sit by the fireplace on the ground floor.
