The Gallican Civil War

Military: War

King Magnus III was killed. After a reign characterized by weakness and corruption, leading to wide-spread discontent among the nobility of Gallica, the king died choking on his wine after inviting the wrong woman to his bed-chambers.

Allegedly done by a White Hand Assassin hired by the head of the Ortega Duke Family, the assassination threw the nation into disarray as his son, Magnus IV was too young to take the throne. Thus, the crown was claimed by Duke Arthur Ortega.
In the ensuing confusion the young heir was spirited away from the capital by those followers that still held a loyalty to the Athala Bloodline.

In the following yeard, King Ortega would take the country in a much more militarized direction, among other activities founding The Platinum Constables. Many of his other policies persist to this day.

After several years of this rule, young magnus was both old and educated enough to reclaim his birthright.
Alliances were forged behind closed doors, armies were rallied, promises were made. Finally, Magnus revealed himself openly and declared King Ortega to be a usurper.
The Country was split in two between various noble factions and the war was bloody and no easy victory for either side was in sight.
Ultimately a Celestial envoy descended from heaven, blessing the at the time young Magnus Athala IV and his future children with being of Nephilim Blood as a sign of favor from Vulcan.

This lead to the churches of Gallica putting their support behind Magnus, along with their orders of holy knights and war-priests, thus making victory impossible for the Ortega Family.
However if they decided to drag the conflict out, the damage to the country would be tremendous.
The two factions eventually managed to negotiate a peace-deal.
Many political concessions were given, but most important was that while Magnus would take the throne, his queen would be of the Ortega Bloodline to ensure the lasting peace between the two houses.

The crowning of Magnus Athala IV was thus combined with his marriage to Queen Thaliah Ortega.
Magnus started demilitarizing his country to a large extent and started putting in more protections for the common folk, thus alleviating many minor revolutions brewing all over the country.
He also gave further political powers and legal protections to the various churches.
This reduction in Gallica's military strength would however lead to further conflict in the future.
