Gwynedd and the Capital Region

Gwynedd is the largest land mass on New Cambria and the most important region on the planet, with the central government based at the Assembly in New Swansea.

History

New Cambria uses the republican dating system, FR (from the foundation of the republic) and since the events listed here are much more commonly expressed in that form, this text will follow the same convention. The common era equivalent is occasionally shown in brackets.
In the first few hundred years, following the colonisation of the planet in 45 FR (2610 CE) Gwynedd had a turbulent and violent history during a period known as the New Cambrian Troubles. Whilst it did not suffer from quite the same degree of instability and near constant warfare that afflicted the Azure Isles, conflict was still prone to erupt on an irregular basis.
The main power block for most of this time were the Old Assembly, ruling from the capital of New Swansea.
In 331 FR, the Old Assembly was overthrown. This was a rare time when the Azure Isles were united under a single strong government based in Ceruleafirth which called itself the Friends of New Cambria. In an ambitious power grab, they launched a fleet to Gwynedd which was undergoing one of its periodic phases of relative disorganisation and lack of central control. The force landed at Far Aberystwyth where it met no resistance. Sweeping up disaffected elements in the south it raised its banners as the Army of the Friends of New Cambria (AFNC), declaring (as all revolutionaries must) that it would right wrongs, end corruption and establish a new world order. Marching up the western coast, it successfully conquered the island of Zan and New Swansea was taken later in the year. The Old Assembly fell back to strongholds in Dragon City (the ceremonial gateway of which is illustrated at the top of the page) where they continued to be a thorn in the side of the new government for many years.
