Katarina was the Queen of Earth at the time of the upgrising against the 4th dynasty of the Resource Management World Government in 2533.
First elected to the position in 2522 at the climax of a periodic planetary wide reality show, she could not have won through without possessing great beauty and charisma but Katarina was also smart and well advised and she moved beyond the status of a puppet, quickly building and defending a power base within the wide limits the weird constitution of the 4th dynasty permitted. Her formal rival was Imran, the King of Earth, but that was more about style than substance and her real struggles were with the BEA and the Zed Men.
Katarina had to hold opposing notions of femininity in tension, often concealed for modesty but simultaneously projecting sexual power through a fish net veil her more austere critics considered pornographic. She was a wildly popular Queen and won the biannual re-election to the role every time it was held, including the final one in 2534. There was no election in 2536 due to the civil war which had engulfed the Earth. Siding with Achmed Shankar under mysterious circumstances when he returned from exile on Silusia Alpha, her defection from the accepted power structures helped to hasten the end of the war.
Her reign came to an end with the end of the 4th dynasty in 2538.
