Personal history

Marshella Dean was born in Winchester, England to a family of brewers of fine ales. At a young age, she worked as a server at her father, Robin Dean's local pub in England. Marshella hated working under her father, and the pub in Winchester. In 1670, she and her family were offered a town plot in Port Royal where the Dean family could brew fine ale for The British Royal Navy. Marshella worked in what was then called the Dean pub for ten years until in 1675. On a rather rowdy night, several British sailors assaulted Marshella after she refused to dismiss a tab held by several high-ranking navymen. Marshella's father refused pressed charges, afraid of further repercussions. Marshella, outraged, cursed her father, the pub, and Port Royal and ran away from home.   Marshella joined up with an unnamed pirate crew aboard her first ship. It was at this time that she began to learn swordplay from some of the pirates that she worked with. Over time, Marshella accumulated enough wealth to purchase her own ship, the Ship: Dapper Lion. Marshella would plunder the seas for years and her signature red-flagged lion became feared amongst merchant sailors in New Spain.   During that time period, Marshella became one of the most respected sword fighters and knife-throwers on the Seven Seas. Though her feats did not match up to some other notable pirates, many consider Marshella to be the finest duelist of her generation, and even Captain William "Bill" Mason admitted that he would probably lose to her in a swordfight.   Though not a Pirate Lord herself, Marshella was present for the second gathering of The Brethren Court. It is said that Marshella, one of the few educated individuals amongst the court- spell-checked the Pirate Code for Morgan and Bartholomew. She was one of several candidates for the next generation of Pirate Lords after the first.   Marshella would go on many adventures and make many friends, including Captain William "Bill" Mason and Ol' Smokey.   In 1689, Marshella received word that her father had suffered a heart attack at the age of 65, and that as his eldest child the pub and its brewery in the Market District Port Royal belonged to her. Marshella returned back to Port Royal and took ownership of the Dean Brewery and Pub. She sold off the Brewery location and, seeing as the pub was right next to the North Docks, decided she'd settle down and run it herself. Marshella destroyed the building she once worked in and used the pieces of her beloved ship to create the foundation for her new pub, The Dapper Lion Pub.   Still, though, Marshella was integrated as a member of the Brethren Court, and maintains authority as a respected member. She often serves as an aid and informant to pirates in Jamaican waters, and her pub is a neutral ground for pirates on the run from the British Royal Navy (who she describes as vermin).

Intellectual Characteristics

As a Pirate and now as an information broker on the behalf of Pirates, Marshella is one of the quickest wits amongst the Brethren Court. Her ability to connect information from multiple sources and disseminate that information to members of the court make her a valuable asset to Pirate Crews, and she's saved the hides of many pirate captains with her decision making prowess.   In combat, Marshella's intellect is put to use quite well- she has excellent technique and utilizes the environment to her surroundings.
