Firbolgs
Native to northeastern forests conquered just over a century ago, the Principle of Assimilation--which dictates that races added within the empire can slowly climb available Castes--currently only allows firbolgs to be of the lowest free Caste, the Steel Caste. Firbolgs remain largely isolated from the rest of the Empire, living in small semi-autonomous communities, providing lumber and resources to the government in exchange for a relative lack of interference.
Firbolgs are between seven and eight feet tall, with skin in shades of grey and brown, broad features, pointed ears, and sometimes vestigial tails. Their language is distinctive, often described as sounding like the trumpeting of elephants, and it cannot be pronounced by races without their distinct construction of vocal chords.
Naming Conventions
As firbolg names are essentially unpronouncable by non-firbolgs, they have relative freedom in what name they choose to adopt among Common-speaking folk. Usually, they will not take aasimar names, as this is considered presumptive, but all other forms of name are available. Direct translations of firbolg names that can be spoken in common resemble the examples given in the source book.Firbolg Characters
