The Empress

Oh goddess whose spirit fills the sky,   And whose red heart holds the sun.   Your throne is of the aether and the stars.   Your glory shines across all the provinces.   In your serenity, your clemency, your splendour, your radiance:   You hold the veil in your palms, and all the world kneels before you. Morning Prayer
The Empress is the god-monarch of the Celestial Empire, the autocratic ruler as well as the central goddess of the state religion. For more on the Empress' theocratic importance, see Celestial Religion.   In Celestial thought, the Empress has not been multiple people, but rather a single entity that has traded old bodies for new ones. For this reason Empresses are not given regnal numbers.   The Empress currently resides in the body of a twelve-year-old girl. As with all Empresses, she is an identical clone of her predecessor. She was artificially inseminated and carried to term by the previous Empress when she was sixteen, a routine procedure to ensure the ultimate purity of the bloodline. For the first time in Imperial history, the birth went awry, leading to the premature death of the previous empress--referred to as 'transferral to a new vessel', in Y.H.R 9988. Since then the infant Empress has been represented by a council led by Regent Sai.   The Empress resides in the Celestial City, a walled, city-sized palace complex populated only by the elite. Like all Empresses, she is considered her own subrace of aasimar, not fitting into the 'high', 'common,' or 'low' categories. Her image, both in her 'mortal' aspect and as an adult, is omnipresent in the empire. She is expected to come into majority at the age of sixteen and take over personal control of the nation.
