Aasimar

Aasimar are the ruling race of the continent. According to legend, thousands of years ago, the First Empress had four daughters: the eldest became the next vessel for Her Divine Soul, but the other three became the mothers of each of the aasimar subraces.   Aasimar have similar physiology to humans, but they have skin, hair and eyes in metallic shades, usually ranging between copper, gold, platinum, and silver. Many are able to grow vestigial wings, although it takes training to be able to fly with them for extended periods of time. The main physical difference between different aasimar subraces, apart from their wings, is their eyes: low aasimar have no pupil or iris, common aasimar have only a pupil, and high aasimar have separate pupil, iris and sclera.   Aasimar culture is the dominant one within the Empire, and many other races have chosen to assimilate by wearing aasimar fashions and taking aasimar names. It is common, for example, for wealthy members of other races to have Arcane Genetic Modifications done in order to look more like aasimar. Although by law it is illegal to make yourself look entirely like another race, in practice many choose to have metallicized skin or rounded ears in order to better prescribe to aasimar standards.   High Aasimar: High aasimar are the most divine of races, descendants of the Second Daughter who became the first priestess. They have the traits of Protector aasimar.   Common Aasimar: The most numerous of the aasimar subraces, according to legend common aasimar descend from the Third Daughter, who became the first general. They have the traits of Fallen aasimar.   Low Aasimar: Although still considered divine, the low aasimar are the children of the Fourth Daughter, who betrayed her mother and caused Her Celestial Highness to curse the aasimar with mortality. Because of this low aasimar are often subject to discrimination from other aasimar, even though they can be of high Caste. You have the traits of Scourge aasimar as detailed in the source book.

Naming Conventions

Aasimar families have only two names available to their members, one male and one female. These names are hereditary from same-gender parent to child, and they are unique within families (so no name can be shared by people who are not related.) An aasimar is given a number based on their age; all living aasimar within the family of the same gender are ranked from oldest to youngest. For example, a female aasimar named Meilong who has a living mother, grandmother and aunt all named Meilong would be called Meilong Fourth. On the death of her grandmother, she would become Meilong Third.   Although this system is highly traditional, it relies on keeping track of the extremely small families that were once mandated by the government. This mandate was lifted two hundred years ago, and since then the numbering system has become quite inaccurate as family branches lose contact. Many aasimar in bigger families choose entirely arbitrary numbers, as it is impossible to know how many older relatives there are.   Aasimar names can be one or two syllables long and are made up of component syllables, either taken in isolation or joined together. Single-syllable names, such as 'Han,' 'Kin,' or 'Li,' tend to belong to very high ranking families. These names are not inherently male or female, and become gendered only upon learning who has them. Non-binary aasimar tend to choose the name of the parent they prefer. A family unit (parents and children) is usually referred to as the [older parent name]-[younger parent name] family; for example, the 'Tsuli-Ken Family.'   Examples. Mei, Kindai, Shinko, Suli, Hanah, Dai, Mazu, Jan, Tanpo
