Season 10, Episode 6: "The Valley of the Shadow of Death" Report
General Summary
After sending House Blackblood in all directions, to gather their allies and meet them in the Boneyard, the Dream Team returned to the Material Plane for a well-earned rest and their final preparations.
They confirmed the Aga Jain was repaired, and planned for the starship to join them at a safe distance from the battle. While checking the systems, Lockette found Wonton as a stowaway on deck, still intent on fulfilling his father's orders despite his death, and Mist decided to reinstate him in the crew as head chef. Dissatisfied with the direction of her training, Flay decided to sneak in a use of a mnemonic editor, interrupted partially by a vision of Desna. She warned Flay not to trust Aroden fully, restoring her memory of a past encounter (yet known to anyone in the party), and shortened the duration of the item to a mere night's rest.
Before leaving Castrovel, Flay and Mist went to visit the survivors of the Ikal Expanse, but were horrified to discover that all who had fallen sick — including Roar in the River — had grown progressively worse over night and passed in their sleep. Having missed River's calls in her comatose state, Flay tracked down her comm unit from the burn pile, only for Mist to accidentally wipe it after triggering the Technomancer's failsafe. They then visited the remaining survivors, a mere forty Ysoki, led by a grisly warrior by the name Scream in the Shadows. Hearing Flay's destination they decided to follow her into battle, at last putting the Dream Team's armory to good use.
At last, the time of conflict, as the Dream Team decided to enter with the ground forces, meeting the Aga Jain along the way to the Mercenary's gravestone, and then diverting off to Pharasma's Spire, where Gillby and other warriors interested in Isra would coalesce. Led by Cromwell and Delilah-9, several Forge Warden casters began a complex ritual to cross the planes...
The Dream Team crashed onto Dwayne the Rock Junior, a colossal Earth Elemental charging through the outskirts of the Boneyard, covered all over with defensive outposts and rising enemy forces. Wither creatures poured in, followed by ghosts of the long-dead, including the spirit of the Candle Heart and key members of Varos Mining Team 5. In the chaos Flay earned her first two points of Wither Corruption, and MaMa transitioned into the first stage.
Then TRAVIS reported for duty with the Ysoki and Mining Team 2 on board, offering aerial support as more monstrosities surfaced from the past. Injuries stacked with each arrival, as Crimson cut into the Mercenary and Flay, Zolan Ulivestra hounded Mist, Trinity fired electrical barrages at MaMa and Lockette, and Sizzghar and Folda rained magic from behind cover. Mu Draconis showed her merit here, firing calmly even when she herself was under assault, ignoring the pounding fists of Doom Heralds and magic spells in order to pick off weakened targets.
Their victory was close, with many of the Dream Team left staggering, but at last they reached the rendezvous point with House Blackblood, and entered a clear pocket in the chaos surrounding the Mercenary's gravestone. He took up the Fūten Masamune, memories flooding into him (see the history section of the sword's article for more info), and at last recalled his name — the legendary swordsmith of Taumata, Masamune.
Then a war horn sounded from the west, the battle pouring out of the walls, with nothing but hell and highwater between the Dream Team and Isra's mortal soul.
