Season 5, Episode 3: "Harsh Questions" Report
General Summary
The Dream Team woke from their slumber -- feeling rested for the first time in three days -- with visions of Wonton and Chess fading from their minds. After a quick breakfast with Chamas and the crew, the party gathered together for TRAVIS's revival, who booted back up with all systems green. The artificial intelligence immediately leapt back into action, correcting haywire systems on the ship, giving Flay a room, reviving the on-deck Hydroponic Garden, transcribing Lod Coster's tablet, and ensuring the imprisonment of Gregar Taxus on the group's journey to the Culinarium.
With everything squared away, the group said their farewells to Ezorod once more, and entered the Drift. After ensuring a one-day travel to the Idari, they decided it was time to break into the Rambling Road, and used the First Avenue Key.
Within, they saw a number of strange things, divided by jarring teleports and alarming body modifications. Of note, both Tesin and Lockette have received wedding rings they cannot remove, Flay temporarily lost of all her fur, and Chamas gained an eldritch tattoo, which seems to be related to some kind of Elder Mythos literature. Despite these hardships, the Dream Team were far too skilled for the First Avenue, and arrived at its Guardian in just over an hour.
Rather than a fight, the group found the ghostly Patyr, an ancient hero whose spirit had been captured by Baba Yaga in an age long past. When the Rambling Road formed he was forced to be its first Guardian, where he has attempted to advise new heroes away from the pitfalls of adventuring. Although the party was perhaps the most senior group he had encountered, he questioned them nonetheless, using the mystical information provided to him by the Road. During this encounter, several uncomfortable questions were left unanswered, as well as some startling implications -- i.e. that Tesin might have a son, that Annwen was alive, and that Idryll now ruled over Project 9 without the Board.
Well wishes aside, the group could do nothing to end Patyr's imprisonment, and the hero was satisfed with their intentions. He gifted them a token of material wealth, as well as his once-famous ring, which grants the wearer improved fortitude, reflexes, and strength of will. He then granted Isra the Second Avenue Key, and the crew left the Rambling Road together.
Once returned, TRAVIS informed the crew that they had arrived at the Idari, and Mist gave the order to leave the Drift...
