The Timber Guild

The Timber Guild is a collection of wealthy businessmen from Toulon (Town) involved in the timber trade. They have maintained a strong control of the local council, effectively making Toulon (Town) a plutocracy. It's primary focus is on the development of the timber trade and expansion of the town. Many members of the guild even help support the local garrison with arms and provisions to this aim. This has helped buy them loyalty amongst the town guard in exchange for looking the other way from time to time.

Structure

The guild is headed by the nine wealthiest businessmen in the town. This is, officially at least. In reality, the guild leadership consists of three families: the Geraldens, the Favions, and the Martins. These families run the guild from within by either occupying seats directly or through alliance with lesser members.

Public Agenda

The guild seeks to support the laborers who tire endlessly in the town's ever expanding timber trade. In reality, the guild members more often seek how to use the local council to defeat their competition.

Assets

The guild has hidden chests of gold, silver, gems, all throughout Toulon (Town). The wealth they possess is enough to fund a small army. A small armory is stocked and maintained by the guild to provide the town guard. Along with fast areas of forest, the guild also owns many lumber mills, carpentry shops, and caravans. Unbeknownst to the public, however, the guild has smuggled a small amount of black powder into the town.

History

The guild was first created at the inception of the town back when it was just a collection of tents. Two competing businessmen moved into the area at the same time, but rather than fight out their differences in a costly war, they agreed to share the land and the profits. Over the years, it has grown to incorporate over 54 local business in Toulon (Town).
