Gobolando
The City of Goblins
“The land of Freedom? Bah! That ain’t for us ya git. We ain’t trying to be no nasty thieving people! We’ve got each other right here, why would we need strangers to tell us what to do?”-Goblin Follower of Wiz
Culture
Within the midst of a slumbering inactive volcano, lies the settlement of Gobolando. Dubbed the land of Freedom in the goblin tongue, it is a haven for the goblin followers of Ignis. First established by the followers of Bok-Bok the Goblin, it is a crude attempt at modern civilization. It attempts to replicate the foundations of a modern city similarly to the The Septum Confederation or the The Aliech Kingdom.
Though it is noted that their society functions nocturnally, as many of the rest in the early morning, work in the afternoon, and party till the morning is gone. While its population is small and primarily consists of goblins and ogres, they enjoy a plethora of benefits that other regions cannot provide naturally due to their environment.
With narrow streetways covered in dimly lit torches, the sounds of wind instruments and the banging of drums can be heard from dawn till afternoon. With small parties consistently being held day after day by the populace, it's a town that truly never sleeps. With an industry that utilizes goblins to their fullest potential, many find it necessary to let loose during the night before reluctantly returning to work in the afternoon.
Goblins that live in this region are given tasks that they are best able to accomplish from a selection at birth or an assessment. While they are unable to change their work path, they're able to accomplish tasks that only they can do within their community. This allows their society to continuously function as a working industry to harvest and live an agricultural rather than to hunt and scavenge for the remains like their other kins that follow the diety of Wiz.
People of Gobolando
Goblins of Ignis
It was rumored long ago, that goblins were the first enlightened by Ignis. With the ability to kindle flames, and ignite fires, they were able to overcome their fears of the dark and the cold.
By harnessing the power of the flames they slowly converted their beliefs in the deity known as Wiz to Ignis. Infatuated by the kindling of flames and the abrupt nature of fiery destructions, they've settled in a region of volcanic inactivity for its abundance of fertile soil and metals, protection against creatures and the cold.
Ogres
Often described as brutish, unintelligent, and cowardly, they have formed a collation with Goblins to provide labor-intensive work in exchange for the capabilities of intellect that they lack. While not many ogres are willing to be indoctrinated into a society of other creatures, they do so with the promise of obtaining a bountiful land where they cannot be troubled furthermore by other humanoids and creatures.
A small population of Ogres has been indoctrinated into a form of servitude due to various reasons such as debt, destruction of property, or harm against others.
History
Predominantly known to live in tribalistic settings, it is often very uncommon for Goblins to collaborate within large groups. Reasons such as infighting have led their society to instead, live in smaller tribes within local regions. For any form of collaboration to be formed between small tribes, would require the approval of chieftains or shamans. Many of which did not last long, due to mistrust against one another.
While they will often collaborate against a danger that may prove harmful to themselves, they will often refuse to do so for long periods of time. With their society solely based upon the blessings of Wiz, few would dare follow the path of Ignis. It was only when one day, a goblin named Bok-Bok and his tribe began to unite followers under the banner of Ignis did a true form of collaboration begin.
Bok-bok spoke of a land that could provide bountiful harvest, warmth, and protection against all other creatures and even the harsh winters themselves. As the various followers of Ignis spoke of the words of Bok-Bok, they abandoned their homelands, leaving behind all that once was. Now guided by the word of Bok-Bok and his Tribe of Bok, they made way towards the lands of the inactive volcano dubbed "The Three Brothers."
With many years of progressions -and setbacks due to wildfires caused by their people-, Gobolando is now a stable settlement with oddly designed houses of unique proportions, irregular shapes, and most nonsensical placement. While they look shoddy in contrast to well-developed cities, they are deceivingly stable, replaceable, and quite inexpensive to reproduce.
Rocketry Program
"To Atem and Beyond."
Fascinated by the incandescent sun, many goblins of this region find it their mission to discover a way to the Sun for various reasons. While many other societies ridicule them in their attempts to reach outer space, they have accomplished great feats in rocket-propelled technology, and are the first species to incorporate it heavily into their society. Only the most prestigious, intelligent, and foolheartedly goblins are given the grace and resources to attempt such a feat by their community. Presently, the death count for these brave Rocketeers for the program is 581.
Hot Springs
A popular tourist attraction for those traveling from the Septum Confederation or the Aliech Kingdom. Native only to Gobolando due to the region's volcanic activity, clients may dip their toes in the regional Hot Springs offered throughout the land for a small fee. As it is always warm all season, it remains a destination of interest for many who travel around the world or those that do business in Gobolando.
The Eternal Cauldon of Bok-Bok
With kindling rumored to be obtained from the very first torch lit by goblins, Bok-Bok served a variety of soups from a cauldron during their journey to the volcano of the Three Brothers. Consistently cooking and feeding goblins who brought back food to replenish the gigantic cauldron. It remains a tradition that it continues to remain lit forever as it feeds adolescent goblins who become adults, and newly appointed citizens of Gobolando as well.
