Mythology & Lore

The Rising of Malonkar

In the Year 243 2E, the world of Vilia heard word of a war waged amongst the Gods as the Demon Malonkar lead a war to usurp King Ronasura. The war extended to the Venu on Vilia, and fighting spilled out between the followers of the various Demons, as this civil war divided Demon-kind into factions.   The war sparked chaos and devastation for hundreds of years until the Year 630 2E, as the Demon Malonkar overthrew King Ronasura. Rather than kill him, King Malonkar condemned Ronasura to exile, sending him to Vilia to walk amongst the devastation his reign had caused.   The victory of King Malonkar created a new rift among the Demons of Vede, with many of King Ronasura's supporters such as the Demon Marani choosing to concede and accept King Malonkar's rule, whilst other loyalists of King Ronasura would refuse to forsake him and would either go into exile themselves, or be killed.

Tenets of Faith

Marani

The followers of Marani have a great respect for the balance of life and death, they are known to participate in extensive rituals to honour the dead and say their final farewells to the departed.   The followers of Marani abhor any kind of practices that ensure the dead can not acheive their final rest, resenting all forms of Necromancy.

Worship

The worshippers of Marani maintain a ritual in which to honour the dead in their final passing, they will cast magic upon them so that their loved ones can ask them five final questions before they depart their bodies. At this point, their body is taken to the city of Maranivara and their ashes scattered before Marani's temple.

Priesthood

The Wayward Rest

Servants of Marani specifically selected by the Demon herself as her chosen elite, tasked to do her bidding in Vilia and to ensure that the dead are respected and honoured as they should be.

Political Influence & Intrigue

There is deep animosity between those who worship Demons of the First Pantheon and Demons of the Second Pantheon. The worshippers of the First Pantheon have largely been driven out of civilised society and have devolved into disaparate tribes and factions, forced underground by their more established counterparts who worship the Second Pantheon.   The exception to this is the Demon Marani, whose followers rule over the city of Maranivara. Marani is respected both by the First and Second Pantheon, and factions from both sides will often bring their loved ones to receive funeral rights in Maranivara.
