The hero enters the phase of "conscious incompetence"
- Learns what he didn't know
- Understands scaleof the problem
- Point of no return
- Faces his flaw
- Emotional high point - but may not have much action
- Feels vulnerable & incompetent, a failure
- may include death of comrade, confrontation, ally as positive or negative role model, betrayal by an ally, confrontation or mocking by the antagonist, hero may blame others, or internalize, may attempt to hand over reins to an ally
- HERO either re-commits or changes the goal (goal evolution)
- may include hero personal growth
- Ally becomes more important (so you can rip them away later)
- antagonist becomes personal - althogh may not yet have met
