Ealdorman Hengel has lived in Appingmere all his life. Once a peasant working the fields, he met the woman who came to be his wife and they had three children. Two sons and one daughter. The second son died from an illness only 3 years old.
Always a hard worker, Hengel was eventually appointed Ealdorman and has had the position the past 15 years. But it appears that the memories of peasants are short and as Appingmere is facing tougher times than ever, the villagers are quick to turn their anger at the Ealdorman, blaming him and his inept leadership for the fates of their loved ones.
