Takusan
A religion which believes in an over-encompassing energy of the world, which acts as arbiter to the spirits, who experience many lifetimes in living beings, supernatural creatures, and even objects.
Sigil
The Idle Hourglass:
A sandless, sideways Hourglass. It symbolizes the timelessness of the soul and the universe.
Tenets of Faith
- "Punishment for sins always arrives; in this life or the next"
- "Souls inhabit everything around us. Respect things with life or age"
- "The Body is ephemeral. Find peace within, and all your lifetimes shall be full."
Ethics
Takusan believes that the current order of things results from karmic justice for punishment or good deeds in past lives. Someone who is a ruler, for example, was someone who did good for many people, or excelled at something that helped the race push forward. Someone who is homeless is someone who acted savagely and selfishly, stealing and killing without rhyme or reprieve, and for pure pleasure. Due to this idea, Takusan societies tend to be strict, and it is considered an enormous risk to rebel or contradict an established order.
Worship
Worship of Takusan usually takes place through meditation in places sprawling with nature, which is believed to be a place with many 'resting spirits', inhabiting trees and animals. Sometimes temples are erected with huge internal gardens that are meant to emulate this idea.
Priesthood
Takusan does not have any priests perse, but rather figures of religious imporance. Mediums, or those who see visions of their past lives (and the past lives of others) are considered closer to the Takusan -- or even blessed by it. These people are sought out by many who seek answers for their lives' troubles. Takusan also holds Lorekeepers in high regard. They are basically Historians with religious connotations. Lorekeepers are treated with sanctity, as to create testimony of lives that will be lost to time is considered an act of good. Some studious believers, as well, have become attuned to the Takusan, and have come to find ways to wield its will. These are often known as Nominates [Oda Miyamoto is an example of this] and they come from many different strata of society.
