Gregur III of Emerling

King Gregur III of Emerling

King Gregur III of House Emerling tried to cement his family's hold on the throne of Rasfadal but met with a tragic end.   Gregur III was born in the year 1000AP, the son of King Gregur II, a monarch who made significant changes to the feudal structure of the kingdom. In 1057AP, Gregur III ascended the throne and continued his father's work. He believed in a fluid noble class, and for members of nobility to be appointed for merit. However, this was not a popular sentiment among the lords who felt that their power was being taken away.   The new laws and taxes imposed by Gregur III to support his efforts led to much dissatisfaction among the lords. Rebellion was a common sight throughout his reign, with many lords eager to regain their power and independence. But Gregur III was not a man to be easily defeated. He fought back, determined to maintain the hold of his house on the throne.   Sadly, his efforts would lead him to his downfall. In the year 1070AP, a great battle was fought at Grymbir, between the forces of the king and those of rebellious lords. Gregur III, who was leading his troops into battle, met his end along with his grandson. The battle ended in a defeat for the king, resulting in the count of Fallar declaring independence, a blow to the power of the central monarchy. Gregur III was succeeded by his son Gregur IV, who was crowned on the battlefield where his father and son died.
