"Being in the swamps is nothing to be proud off. However, being the first major settlement along a navigable river does come with some benefits. The Dirty Baron runs this place and inspects every boat coming in and out. Duke Deiniol, Lord of Twyrif isn't pleased with this, but was forced to come to an agreement and pay a monthly fee to the Dirty Baron in order to get access to shipments. It was cheaper than constantly stationing troops he needed elsewhere. One might expect that this lucrative agreements would boost the village's economy, but the people of Lonshard see very little of it. The baron has a bad habit of overspending and prioritizes his lavish lifestyle over his Lordly responsibilities."
