The Goldenwood
Between the Henderent Plains and the Orolon sea, the Goldenwood is known for its exotic flora and territorial elves. The elves have become mostly isolationist making travel here without their permission dangerous. They trade with the Merfolk Principality, Port Ruin, and allow a limited amount of travel through the forest, though none living have seen their actual city.
Geography
The forest is roughly circular with a diameter between 40-50 miles. It is just north of the coast and comes up to the old outskirts of a ruined city. While the city of Port Ruin once again has a population in the dock ward, the rest of the city is abandoned ruins.
Within the forest itself the hills and trees hide most other visible geography from view. The Old Road that circles the Henderent Plains cuts through the forest and comes near the Elvish city of BaileLaith.
Fauna & Flora
Home to the hardwood giant oaks known as Sulphan Broadleaves, carnivorous Stardew Vines, holy Sacra trees, pipler bushes, and hardy Frilled Morrels. The verdant abundance is said to be because it was an ancient garden of giants or dragons. Today maintained by the elves of Gaisheral, who terrorize the lesser races by placing all the dangerous plants as a hedge around their borders. Given that most plants have a processable use it certainly is plausible that it was originally a garden though overgrown and made wild over time.
Natural Resources
The varied plants provide a fantastic array of herbs, unusual tinctures, and crystalline saps. This includes biologically produced acids and poisons. Illicit drugs and poisons are rumored to come from here as well, however strongly denied by the elves themselves.
The green tinged pottery from the region comes from an unusual type of clay containing nephrite particulate. It is pulled up from a mud boiling hot spring connected to a vast network of caves.
Combined with the honey from a giant bee apiary, their market in medicines, beeswax and resins is second to none.
