Trident's Trench
This trench is located off the coast of the Mysterium and contains a deep rift reef with a sizable number of unusual flora and fauna. Named for it's three open shafts that eventually merge deep in the ocean floor, one shaft head is the site of the sea town of Red Coral.
Fauna & Flora
The trench has three distinct biomes based on the depth of the chasm.
The top most layer has many types of fish and sharks are found among the various pink, orange and purple corals of the reef area. Commonly visited by the fishers of Red Coral, and even the interested visitor. A bit outside the corals are fields of sea grass and a kelp forest. The most notable is the strange blue and purple kelps that seem to only grow in this region and are used frequently in native dress.
This middle regions are home to a number of octopus groups, living in chambers in the chasm wall. The lasher anemone is common at this layer, while not dangerous it looks scary due to it's red whip like "tongue" that gathers miniature krill and plankton. The glowfish have fantastic neon colors that flash on and off providing a strange twilight in this region. The giant blue crabs and bearded cuttlefish are commonly seen at this layer, though during the winter they seem to migrate a bit higher.
The deep regions of the chasm are home to Clawed Fish along with the Slumbering Jellies. The Slumbering Jellies are thought by some to be a trapped school of Jellyfish that are trapped deep in the trench. They are the only known being that Clawed Fish will implant their eggs into other than giant squids, whales and the octopus.
