Tagwell
Tagwell is in an unfortunate position, resting on the outskirts of the civilized world just south of the Ashmouth's easternmost edge. It's only a matter of time before everyone who lives there is swept away. Still, life is good. Food is plentiful, since most sane folk don't really want to live so close to the Ashlands, and water enough for those who live there runs in the Silick River, which can be purified of ash easily enough and should remain suitable for drinking for at least five years more. Sure, there are the phantoms to worry about, the creatures that live in the ash and come into town every now and then with nothing but malevolent intentions, and sure the next ash sweep is certain to take everyone now living in Tagwell and the whole town with them. The town is still lovely, for those of us that prefer a quiet living in a place where everyone knows everything about everyone else. Folk there are good, and it's good that they are, for no one has a secret that can be kept from their neighbors, and the Tagwell branch of The Lawperson's Guild is well prepared to use that to their advantage.
Demographics
Humans, Half-Orcs, Garden Gnomes and Lizardfolk from the Verdant Fen. As with most places in the world, however, the population of Tagwell is mostly human.
Government
Tagwell has an elected mayor. This mayor is an awakened cat named Ceviche, and he does a fantastic job of keeping the denizens of his town happy through constant interaction with The Lawperson's Guild, which he allows complete control over law enforcement. Any newly proposed laws go through his office for approval before being passed.
Industry & Trade
Most of the denizens of Tagwell are either farmers or fishers, working the ash-fertilized land for a bounty of crops or net fishing in the Sillick River. Some few mercenaries, now retired, spend their days in the little tavern at the edge of town, offering some protection while they remain sober enough to hold a blade.
Infrastructure
The roads leading out of Tagwell lead to nowhere, the stones long ago worn away. So long ago that none of the current denizens have used them. The bridge over the Sillick River still functions, however, and is small enough that the toll charged by the Cathanti is payable even by the poorest commoner. The walls around the city are crumbling, but Tagwell has no enemies these days, so the only walls the town needs are the wooden barricades of sharpened sticks that keep out the beasts of the Ashmouth. Just within the crumbling walls is a watermill, built within a deeper portion of the Sillick River.
