Avariel
Elves who disdained the ground and the sea evolved wings and took to the sky, embracing the magic and freedom of the air and wind. Some rumour that this elvish ancestry is also mixed with Celestial ties.
The first recorded sighting of an Avariel was in Auria
Basic Information
Anatomy
Like their terrestrial and aquatic cousins, Avariel resemble humans, though significantly shorter, with long and pointed ears. Avariel in particular have hollow bones like Aaracokra, rendering them extremely lightweight. This allows their feathery wings to grant them flight.
An avariels' colouring can vary widely, especially since their dominant genes cause most part-Avariels to more closely resemble their Avariel parent than anything else. Avariel skin runs the same gamut as humans, ranging from nearly pure-black to alabaster white, with all the warm and cool shades of browns and pinks in between. Hair ranges through all the colours of the sky, and the list of eye colours that haven't been noted among species membors is very short.
Genetics and Reproduction
Avariel reproduce sexually, and can produce viable offspring with most other humanoid species.
Growth Rate & Stages
Avariel mature quickly in relation to humans, achieving full height and weight by around 13 years. From this point, so-called "baby fat" is usually dropped, and an Avariel enters physical maturity with a molting of the wings, dropping the soft, short juvenile feathers to make room for the longer flight feathers of an adult. This molt marks the end of an avariel's age-related physical development. Adult avariel are usually distinguished from freshly-molted juveniles by social maturity and, in some cases, physical strength from training.
Ecology and Habitats
Avariel are widespread, but most populous in and near @Auria, where their flight abilities allow them fuller and more equal participation than among terrestrial communities.
Additional Information
Perception and Sensory Capabilities
Avariel have minor innate magic like all elves, though specialized to the elements of air, thunder, and lightning. Most Avariel children can call small gusts of wind - enough to stir curtains but little else - and untrained adults can send out short-range lightning bolts or clouds of fog. With arcane training, these abilities can be expanded and improved.
