The Void Keep

On the far side of what one might consider to be the end of the The Glimmersea lies an area that defies logic and that few have ever seen. The bioluminescent rock and fungi become fewer and fewer as darkness consumes more and more of the sea until the sea simply ends; not against a shoreline, or against rock, but against a void swallowed by perfect darkness. Far out on one of the piers overlooking the void lies the Blood of the Willing Puzzle   The Void Keep is a castle at the edge of the Glimmersea, overlooking the void. Towering ornate pillars of oily black stone connected by sprawling bridges erupt out of the edge of the sea with no visible seams. The stone seems to drink any light that touches it and while it is still visible, it appears as if it is constantly shrouded in shadow even when bright light shines directly on it. Nobody is sure of who built it, nor how or why they built it, but whoever they were, they are long gone now.   There are many legends in the Lowerdark about this castle, but few people believe it to exist; most think of it as a story to keep people from venturing across the beautiful but dangerous Glimmersea. Some people believe this void is the birthplace of all aberrations, or at the very least the ones that lurk in the Underdark, and that an ancient civilization built this castle as a watchtower to protect the Underdark against the creatures of the void.   Some believe it was crafted by Mindflayers as a fortress to launch their invasion into the Underdark. There is Mindflayer and Aboleth iconography sculpted into parts of the castle after all. Some think it is a church or a monument to the Outer Gods, and Elder Evils that still remain. Some even believe the stone to be refined & compressed Bile Stone from Holashner "The Hunger Below"   There are legends that the void is as old as the planet itself, and that Holashner was the first to pass through, creating the Underdark by burrowing into the planet; slowly eating it from the inside like a worm in an apple.
