Abnormality Events
Manifestation of an Abnormality Event
No one knows the original source of the energies that fuel an Abnormality Event or the appearance of Abnormality Objects, and it is difficult to discern when one may occur. However, a few details have been observed in the moments leading up to an Abnormality Event's occurrence. And while it may not be enough to prevent or protect from its effects, it may be enough of a warning to at least brace for impact.
It has been observed that before an Abnormality Event occurs the air within the area will begin to warp curiously, as if you are viewing it through a fishbowl lens. The event is often accompanied by a lingering taste and smell of a chlorinated pool. A few moments after these effects are perceived the event occurs and these details pass, quickly being replaced with whatever effects the Abnormality Event is currently expressing.
And while these events occur randomly across Delta Space, they do seem to be more concentrated around the borders of the Delta Space nearby where Unknown Space begins. As well, they seem to occur more often near Probability Suspension Drives and during long-distance jumps. It is theorized that this is because these drives and the Probability Shifters located on most long-distance enabled ships use energy derived from large Abnormality Objects that are used as the cores for the Probability Suspension Drives.

Examples of Abnormality Events
Numerous examples of Abnormality Events have been noted across the Delta Space, however, these two examples capture the varying degree of intensity in which they can occur.
A Storm of Spoons
A (mostly) harmless abnormality event where spoons or any random cutlery suddenly begin to spill from the sky, or the ceiling of a building or ship. This event has occurred regularly across the Delta Space at random intervals. It has occurred on ships, stations, lakeside cottages, and anywhere where people are lounging or trying to go about their daily work or play. The event occurs as any Abnormality Event does, a warping of vision and a smell and taste of chlorine, followed soon afterwards by a tear in spacetime opening up above wherever the largest crowd of people currently are and then spewing forth random utensils which often tend to be mostly comprised of spoons of varying size and material.
The size of the tear and the amount of spoons vary from event to event, and the time in which the spoons spill out changes. With the shortest and least egregious of storms being a single spoon spat out at a confused pilot dining alone on his ship. And the longest event being an hour-long deluge of thousands of spoons spilling out and filling a swimming pool as vacationers at the Pleasure Domes of Exon-5 scrambled to find shelter. The Missing Station
While it is not a frequent event, there have been cases of Abnormality Events that have had the frightening effect of a person, ship, or in this case an entire space station folding in on itself and disappearing from known space without a trace. It is unknown if these individuals and objects have been crushed, disintegrated, or warped to an unknown location light years away but regardless it is a frightening vision to watch. In the case of the missing space station, which was luckily not fully inhabited and under construction, was hit by the large energy event as it hung in space under construction, coupled in place by dozens of rigging platforms.
The event was witnessed by crew approaching the station via their work ship, they noted the typical signs of an oncoming event, they braced themselves expecting a shower of spoons or some nonsense and instead witnessed the station warp through the middle and then fold in half like playdoh before disappearing in a soundless blip of intense light. And while the station was nowhere near its full population capacity at least a hundred workers were noted as missing and have never been located.Summary
An Abnormality Event is a strange surge of unknown energy that causes unexplainable and bizarre effects. From disappearing ships to a storm of spoons, these events can be harmless and a mere inconvenience to incredibly dangerous and hazardous to those within it effects.
Similar to an Abnormality Object these events often occur suddenly and without explanation, most of which are small and can be brushed off as a small inconvenience. However, large surges have been witnessed on occasion that have caused immense damage and chaos.Table of Contents
