The StarLight Five

Notes on inspiration; when I first saw this prompt I knew I wanted to do something like an anime/tokusatsu-style team of sorts. So, using that thought and the setting of the ongoing Ka’yar Civil War, I've come up with the StarLight Five. More specifically, I've taken inspiration from the DD Girls from Sailor Moon, more visually than anything. And of course, the name I just selfishly pilfered from one of my all-time favourite songs, Starlight Brigade by TWRP. And while I may be stretching the term, organization, here, I was much more compelled to write about a small team than a big organization. I definitely intend to write more about this group in the future.

Origin of the StarLight Five

The StarLight Five weren't always a team of corruption-fighting warriors, long before that they were children living on Ky'tos Prime. The members of the StarLight Five aren't old, but they aren't teenagers, each member is in their early thirties roughly and has been a member of the team for several years now. Their entire lives have occurred during the course of the Ka'yar Civil War, and have seen its effects on both sides intimately.   When they were all born the war had already started and had already been ongoing for several years, so each of the five grew up witnessing the horrors of it. Though what they were told was warped and twisted. Growing up on Ky'tos Prime, they received highly curated information, painting the actions of the Representative Democracy of Liberation as evil defectors looking to rape, pillage, and destroy. A far cry from the truth of reality. Sadly though, no matter how pure a heart, these lies would indoctrinate much of the population of Ky'tos Prime. This included the five children who many years later would become the StarLight Five.   Growing up in this environment each of the five would become devout patriots of the Ka'yar Colonial Governance, each vowing to end not the Colonial Governance's reign of terror but to resubjugate the petulant child they were told the Representative Democracy of Liberation was. And by the time they all reached their teenage years, they had all enlisted to become soldiers for the Ka'yar Colonial Governance.   This is where the five would meet, as they were each stationed within the same unit. And over the next few years, they would fight against the Representative Democracy of Liberation. However, during this time, each of them, at their own pace, would realize the horrors and atrocities of the war. Much of which, they, were perpetuating, not the other way around. This realization of the deep-seated corruption and brutal practices of the Ka'yar Colonial Governances lead each of the five, independently, and then quickly as a unit, to defect and flee to the Representative Democracy of Liberation. And despite some initial hesitancy, the leaders of the Representative Democracy of Liberation would welcome them in.   However, despite encouragement from the Representative Democracy of Liberation, the five former soldiers refused to join the official military force of their new home. They no longer wished to be governed from above, which many of the leaders in the Representative Democracy of Liberation admired, thinking back to their own origins of rebellion. Instead, the five decided to form an independent liberation, rescue, and rebel force to be known henceforth as the StarLight Five. To which they have operated, allied with but not governed by the Representative Democracy of Liberation, independently for the last several years. Working in tandem together, using their years of experience garnered from a prior life, to help those in danger and fight oppression wherever they can.

Team Members

Zara "Veil" Korr
The stealth expert, adept at infiltration and espionage. Veil is cool-headed and not much can rattle her, though she often takes her role in missions a bit too seriously. Which sometimes causes tension amongst the group, though this is always temporary. The only thing that rattles her easily, and frequently, is her temperamental Abnormality Object.   Her Abnormality Object, the FindMeNot Cloak, allows her to become invisible and phase through solid matter — though it has a temperament attitude and occasionally refuses to work, or stops working at inopportune times.
Kaida "Demo" Rin
The demolitions expert, known for her calm demeanour and tactical approach to situations. Often coming across as somewhat icy, especially during casual conversation, Demo can seem distant. But despite this she often spends the most time out of the team pouring over the details of a mission, ensuring everything is as perfect as possible to avoid any unexpected disasters.   Her IcyHot Pack Abnormality Object enables her to control the temperature of whatever she places it upon, cooling or heating something to whatever extreme she wishes it to be.

Lena "Pulse" D'Var
The team's medic and tech specialist. Pulse, despite her vocation as the team's medical expert, has a spicy personality and is the fire of the team. She is quick to snap at people when she disagrees with the approach of a mission or objective — She most frequently butts heads with Korr, though they quickly make up in most cases.   Despite this fiery attitude she cares deeply for people's well-being, especially her sisters in the group and will gladly throw herself into danger if it means saving them from harm.   Equipped with the Heal4Free Gauntlets, a pair of thick gloves that strap at the wrist, Pulse can emit healing waves and electromagnetic pulses to disable electronics and enemies alike.
Sia "Whisper" Lorne
The communications and strategy officer, skilled in psychological warfare. Whisper is quiet, even amongst her teammates, and only communicates when she feels the need to be heard. She is an interrogation specialist and never allows anyone to join her when she conducts her work. Even those on the team don't really know how she is so successful each time she goes about her business.   Echo's Abnormality Object is unique even amongst the StarLight Five, as it is a stationary object. Nicknamed the Recording Booth, it is a small two-person closet currently located on the team's ship the Usagi Moon. When inside the room, no noise can escape it. Only Whisper knows about its secondary abilities and keeps those to herself.

Mira "Shade" Aven
The sniper and survivalist of the group, Shade is the most frenzied of the group and has a high-energy personality. Often bouncing about a room happily chatting with everyone while the situation is casual. On missions, however, she takes her job very seriously, and while her energy persists she has no problems taking the shot when required.   Her Abnormality Object is called the F-Stop Lens, a small circular lens that is affixed to her sniper rifle, the lens allows her to adjust the brightness level and conditions of her sight within the lens to whatever is most advantageous to her. So a dark and cloudy night could become bright and clear in her vision allowing for an easier shot.
Summary
The StarLight Five is a team of elite female fighters, each hailing from the war-torn capital planet of the Ka’yar Colonial Goverance, Ky’tos Alpha. Amid the Ka’yar Civil War, these women have banded together to combat the oppressive forces of the Ka’yar Colonial Governance and their allies, the Imperial Council of Planets. Aligning themselves with the Representative Democracy of Liberation, they undertake high-risk missions aimed at rescuing prisoners, sabotaging military operations, and disrupting enemy plans.
Mission Objective
The StarLight Five's main objective is to slowly weaken the Ka'yar Colonial Governace's grip on their citizens. With the hope that their work will eventually allow other citizens to break free from the territories' heavy propaganda and control over their citizens' thoughts. The StarLight Five do this by covertly spreading small bits of truth while conducting other more pressing objectives.   The StarLight Five operate primarily within the most dangerous zones of the Ka’yar Civil War, working on both sides of the border, executing daring rescues and covert sabotage operations. They also work to evacuate civilians to the relative safety of southern Representative Democracy of Liberation territories. Occasionally, they transport refugees to distant safe havens like the eastern O.Sec F or the enigmatic Variance space station, though they prefer to stay united and close to the action.

Equipment and Abilities
Each member of the StarLight Five is equipped with an Abnormality Object, granting them unique powers suited to their specialties.   They are also equipped with a vast array of high-tech equipment, however, they are hesitant to carry with them deadly weaponry though they do carry some weapons designed for self-defence and disablement. Even Shade's sniper rifle typically carries non-lethal rounds on most missions. Part of this is because of their past lives as elite soldiers for the Ka'yar Colonial Governance where they were pushed into conducting more brutal tactics. Something they wish to avoid moving forward.   Along with these tools they are trained in various combat techniques and survival skills, they combine their talents to form a formidable force against corruption and tyranny in the vast, war-ravaged expanse of space. They travel together on most missions on their ship, a highly modified XS-Ibex Stock Light Freighter nicknamed the Usagi Moon.

Thanks so much! I absolutely adore Starlight Brigade, and TWRP in general. Been a big fan of theirs, and of NSP for a very long time now. I've been lucky enough to see both of them live a few times now.
