Irina Rovariss
Principle Speaker Irina Rovariss
Irina Rovariss was the Principle Speaker for the New Sophisticates in 1162 AF. She was personally in favour of passing the Status Review Proposal which came before the Parliament in that year and would have granted greater voting rights to the representitives of new cities. Objections from the Foundation Cities, however, ensured that the proposed reforms were never enacted. Opposition came mainly from the southern cities of Freewater and Modyran, who were concerned about the growing strength of Trass relative to their own, and feared that the northern continental cities might band together against their interests, if their voting strength increased.
The failure to achieve full representation for newer cities was later seen as a weakness which eroded respect for the parliament.
