The Three Stigmata of Myruthea

The Three Stigmata of Myruthea is an epic novel written by Kamarin Berr and first published in 6412 APC.   Including themes of greed, love, loss, sin and redemption and featuring a huge cast of characters the story takes place over several generations and all across the world.   Three locations which are of particular importance, however, are the so called "stigmata" of the title, areas of wounded landscape where the continent of Myruthea has been famously afflicted by historical catastrophes. Kamarin invented this collective term for them and due to the popularity of his novel they are commonly known as the three stigmata in other contexts, even now.   In the north and west, the punished plains are a cold semi-desert, polished flat by the retreating ice of the Sundering. In the novel it is here that the impoverished Bracall family eke out a meager living on their windswept farm. Alhough they live so far from the centres of civilisation, through the strange workings of destiny, they will come to play an important role in the unfolding events of the story.   In the punctured lands, where a meteor storm once broke the heart of the Old Pale Empire, Larima Pineman pursues his archeological obsessions in the ruins of Honirham, seemingly ignorant of the effect his work is having on the lives and loves of the locals.   Meanwhile, in the far east, Enwrelle Obreff faces the daily challenges of life at the edge of the Melancholia with stubborn resolve, not knowing that she must one day travel far into the very centre of those cursed and lonely lands to find a family heirloom in the abandoned city of Ralsimoor.   Fate will bring the stories of these widely separated places and people together and perhaps offer some form of healing for all the sufferers who in their various ways, attend to the stigmata of Myruthea.
