Mirrorsign

Magic Mirrors do not generate sound, they are a silent form of communication. In the early years after it was discovered how to use the Magic Mirrors left behind by the Goblins but before Dwarves and Men learned to make their own mirrors, the handheld mirrors were primarily used for sharing records between merchants, governments and other large institutions.   After larger, more powerful, and ornate Magic Mirrors became a sign of wealth and power, Magic Mirrors hit the peak of their popularity. They were being used for personal matters. While it is all well and good for a banker to share records with another branch office by holding up a ledger to a mirror, interactions of a more social nature required faster means of communication. Mirrorsign is a language built on a series of hand gestures and facial expressions to convey ideas quickly.

Continental Dialects

There are two main branches within the Mirrorsign Language, one for each continent. The Polar Continent has an added depth to the language with special emphasis being applied to words based on the location near the face where the gesture is displayed. On the Equatorial Continent, they have additional hand gestures that they add to express a similar emphasis. As intercontinental contact became more commonplace, the two styles often became intertwined with a Mirrorsign user switching between the two midsentence.

Arcaic Flair

As humans explore The Dreamstone Codex to master Arcaic Magic, those who are talented began to show off by adding little magical effects to their gestures. Seen as pompous and vain by some, it added another layer of expression and whimsey to Mirrorsign for others.

Out of Fashion

After The Mirrorshade Insurrection, Magic Mirrors were seen as too dangerous to allow. Mirror Shrouding was no longer considered enough protection from the Demonic influence caused by the mirrors. Many of the Magic Mirrors on Akir were destroyed.   It should be noted that surviving members of The Voidbound Cult still teach Mirrorsign to their recruits. They have saved any mirrors they could obtain. Vareena, The Warlock, makes use of a large Magic Mirror at The Demonheart Vault hidden under Icewraith Expanse.

The cultural dialects make my heart so happy. That's a nice touch.

It's a little sad that the language has fallen to the wayside when using Magic Mirrors became taboo.
